Pinterest is a visual search engine, and pin dimensions matter more here than on most platforms. A properly sized vertical pin takes up more feed space, gets more attention, and earns more saves and clicks. Horizontal or oddly cropped images get pushed aside by the algorithm. Here's everything you need to know about Pinterest dimensions in 2026.

What size should a Pinterest pin be?

The ideal Pinterest pin size is 1000 x 1500 pixels with a 2:3 aspect ratio. This is the standard vertical format that dominates the Pinterest feed. Vertical pins with this ratio take up the most space in search results and the home feed, which means more eyeballs on your content.

Pinterest also accepts square pins at 1000 x 1000 pixels (1:1), but they don't stand out nearly as much. Horizontal images are technically supported but perform poorly - they get shrunk down in the feed and are easy to scroll past. Stick with vertical 2:3 for the best results.

For file format, use PNG, JPEG, WEBP, BMP, or TIFF. PNG gives you sharper text and graphics, JPEG works well for photographs, and WEBP offers good compression with quality. The maximum file size is 20 MB for desktop uploads and 1 GB when uploading through the app. The minimum pin width is 600 pixels (600 x 900 at 2:3), though Pinterest recommends at least 1000 pixels wide to avoid pixelation on high-resolution screens.

What Happened to Pinterest Idea Pins?

Pinterest retired Idea Pins in 2023. You can no longer create multi-page Pins: Pinterest folded the Idea Pin features (music, stickers, text, product tags) into regular image and video Pins, and every Pin can now carry a link. Old Idea Pins with pages still exist, but Pinterest now shows them as videos.

Pinterest Video Pin Size

Standard video pins work best at 1000 x 1500 pixels (2:3) or 1080 x 1920 pixels (9:16) for vertical video. Square video at 1000 x 1000 pixels (1:1) is also supported and useful for cross-posting from Instagram. Vertical video consistently outperforms horizontal on Pinterest because of how the feed is laid out.

Videos should be between 4 seconds and 5 minutes long, though 6-15 seconds is the sweet spot for engagement. Use MP4, MOV, or M4V format (MOV uploads only work from the mobile apps) with H.264 or H.265 encoding. The maximum file size is 2 GB.

Pinterest Profile Picture Size

Your Pinterest profile picture should be at least 165 x 165 pixels, but uploading at 400 x 400 to 800 x 800 pixels is recommended for crisp display on high-resolution screens. Pinterest Carousel Pin Size

Carousel pins let you include 2 to 5 images that users swipe through. Each image should be 1000 x 1500 pixels (2:3) or 1000 x 1000 pixels (1:1). All images in a single carousel must use the same aspect ratio - you can't mix square and vertical in one pin. Maximum file size is 20 MB per image.

Collection Ads feature one hero image or video at the top with smaller product images below it. The hero can be 1000 x 1500px (2:3) or 1000 x 1000px (1:1), with a max file size of 10 MB for the hero image. Secondary product images should be 1000 x 1000px (1:1) or 1000 x 1500px (2:3). You can include 3 to 24 secondary creatives per collection.

Pinterest Ad Sizes

Pinterest ads (Promoted Pins) follow the same dimension rules as organic pins. For Standard Image Ads, use 1000 x 1500 pixels (2:3 ratio). For Standard Video Ads, the same vertical formats work - 2:3 or 9:16. Video ads can run from 4 seconds up to 15 minutes, but keep them between 6 and 15 seconds for the best performance.

Max Width Video Ads expand to fill the mobile feed and can't exceed a 1:1 aspect ratio in height. Showcase Ads can have up to 4 additional cards plus the primary pin. Carousel ads support 2-5 images at 1000x1500 or 1000x1000, with file sizes up to 20 MB per image. Pinterest recommends keeping text overlay on ad images to a minimum for better engagement.

Long Pins and Infographics

Pinterest used to be known for extra-tall infographic pins, and they still work well for tutorials, recipes, and step-by-step guides. A long pin is typically 1000 x 2100 pixels (roughly 1:2.1 ratio). Pinterest won't show the full image in the feed - it truncates anything taller than about 2:3 and adds a "..." indicator. But when someone clicks through, they see the full image.

Be careful with very long pins though. Anything taller than a 1:2.1 ratio might get truncated in ads and some feed placements. If you're making an infographic, 1000 x 2100 pixels is a good maximum to aim for.
